EXPLORING RELIGIOUS MODERATION FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF GENDER AND GENERATION IN YUSUF AZEEM IS NOT A HERO (2021)

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi tema moderasi agama melalui perspektif gender dan generasi dalam novel Yusuf Azeem Is Not a Hero (2021) karya Saadia Faruqi. Moderasi agama, yang dipahami sebagai pendekatan seimbang dan adil dalam mempraktikkan keyakinan di tengah keragaman masyarakat dan Islamofobia, dianalisis melalui respons karakter terhadap prasangka dan diskriminasi. Menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini menganalisis bagaimana nilai-nilai moderat seperti memahami perbedaan, mengendalikan emosi, menolak kekerasan, dan mempromosikan harmoni sosial ditransmisikan secara antargenerasi dalam keluarga Muslim yang tinggal di lingkungan mayoritas non-Muslim. Temuan utama menunjukkan cara-cara komplementer di mana anggota keluarga laki-laki dan perempuan mengemban dan mentransmisikan nilai-nilai ini: laki-laki menekankan pengendalian emosi dan keterlibatan antaragama, sementara perempuan memimpin advokasi publik dan keterlibatan komunitas. Karakter utama, Yusuf, mencerminkan penyerapan nilai-nilai moderat ini melalui responsnya yang non-kekerasan dan terinformasi terhadap Islamofobia. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa moderasi agama bukan hanya sikap pribadi tetapi warisan budaya yang diturunkan melalui keluarga, membentuk identitas Muslim dan ketahanan dalam menghadapi tantangan sosial.
