MONSTROUS-FEMALE OF THREE SOUTHEAST ASIAN HORROR MOVIES

Artikel ini mengkaji perubahan dinamis dua sosok perempuan cantik menjadi figur perempuan-monstrus yang menakutkan sebagaimana dialami oleh tokoh-tokoh dalam film-film hantu Indonesia, seperti Sundel Bolong, Setan Sumiati, Kuntilanak, dan Suster Ngesot. Kajian ini berpendapat bahwa transformasi tersebut merepresentasikan reorientasi bumi menjadi alam yang mengerikan dan bersifat memusuhi.
Dalam struktur naratif, kondisi keseimbangan digambarkan melalui penyatuan harmonis antara unsur feminin dan maskulin dalam institusi pernikahan. Keretakan dan hilangnya keseimbangan tersebut menandai hadirnya duka, pemerkosaan, dan perampasan yang disebabkan oleh pemisahan unsur feminin dari unsur maskulin serta kehadiran unsur maskulin lain. Tindakan pemerkosaan dan perampasan ini melambangkan invasi dan eksploitasi, sementara kemarahan para hantu merepresentasikan kemarahan bumi terhadap invasi dan eksploitasi atas tanah dan alam yang terabaikan.
Meskipun demikian, masing-masing narasi memiliki struktur yang berbeda dalam menggambarkan tujuan kembalinya sosok hantu ke dunia dan proses pemaksaan untuk mengembalikannya ke akhirat. Kesamaan dan perbedaan struktur tersebut dipengaruhi oleh konteks sejarah budaya dan politik masyarakat tempat cerita-cerita tersebut berasal. Kajian ini juga mengungkap cara “bumi” menghadapi kolonialisasi dan eksploitasi.
