Abstract
This research discusses the integration of spirituality and social in the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Islamic banking, both from the conceptual aspect and its applicative practice. CSR in the Islamic perspective is not only seen as a social activity, but also as a social worship that is oriented towards achieving maqashid al-syariah, namely protecting religion, soul, and property. This study uses a qualitative approach with case study method and literature review. The results show that CSR programs in Islamic banks such as Bank Muamalat Indonesia, Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), and BJB Syariah have contributed a lot to social activities such as empowering MSMEs, distributing scholarships, building public facilities, and environmental conservation activities. However, most of these CSR programs tend to focus on symbolic social aspects and have not fully integrated the spiritual dimension explicitly in their implementation. The main challenges in implementing spirituality-based CSR include the tendency to commercialize CSR and the lack of practical understanding of maqashid al-syariah at the operational level. Nevertheless, the opportunity to strengthen spirituality-based CSR remains wide open. With more holistic CSR management, Islamic banks can strengthen their image as financial institutions that are not only profit-oriented, but also for the benefit of the people. This study recommends the need to develop an integrative Islamic CSR model, so that spiritual values can be internalized in every corporate social activity.
