Abstract

This research compares the classical and modern Qur'an recitation teaching methods in Bontoramba Village, Bontonompo Selatan District, Gowa Regency. The study aims to analyze the stages, dynamics, and characteristics of both teaching methods. A qualitative approach, with sociological and anthropological perspectives, was applied. Data was collected through interviews with Qur'an teachers (Ustadz/Ustadzah), local community members, and parents, along with secondary data from related documents. The data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation, while content analysis was used for data processing. The results show that the classical method focuses on memorizing the Arabic alphabet, phonetics, and reciting Juz Amma, with a group-based learning approach. The modern method, however, includes structured learning, beginning with prayer, group recitation, memorization, discussions, and a graduation ceremony. The classical method relies on traditional dialects and group dynamics, while the modern method encourages active participation, student-centered learning, and individual progress. In comparison, the classical method emphasizes collective learning and preserving tradition, while the modern method integrates innovations that cater to individual learning needs. Both methods are essential in Qur'an education, each offering valuable insights for improving teaching practices. This study underscores the importance of adopting both classical and modern approaches to enhance Qur'anic teaching and make it more engaging for students.
