This study aims to identify the contributing factors of library anxiety among students at UIN Datokarama Palu. The research employed a mixed methods approach using a Sequential Explanatory design, combining quantitative data from a survey of 92 students with qualitative data from in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that library anxiety is driven by two major categories: internal and external factors. Internal factors include fear of asking librarians, low self-confidence, and limited information literacy skills. External factors involve uncomfortable physical library conditions, lack of librarian guidance, and difficulties in accessing information or using technologies such as OPAC. These results highlight the need for a holistic approach to improve library services through empathetic librarian support, better infrastructure, and targeted information literacy programs.
Abstrak
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor penyebab library anxiety atau kecemasan dalam menggunakan perpustakaan di kalangan mahasiswa UIN Datokarama Palu. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan mixed methods dengan desain Sequential Explanatory, yang menggabungkan data kuantitatif melalui survei terhadap 92 mahasiswa dan data kualitatif melalui wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa library anxiety dipicu oleh dua kategori utama, yaitu faktor internal dan faktor eksternal. Faktor internal meliputi ketakutan untuk bertanya kepada pustakawan, kurang percaya diri, serta keterbatasan dalam keterampilan literasi informasi. Sedangkan faktor eksternal meliputi kondisi fisik perpustakaan yang kurang nyaman, minimnya pendampingan dari pustakawan, serta sulitnya akses terhadap informasi dan penggunaan teknologi seperti OPAC. Temuan ini menunjukkan pentingnya pendekatan holistik dalam perbaikan layanan perpustakaan melalui peningkatan empati layanan, penyediaan fasilitas yang lebih mendukung, dan program literasi informasi yang terarah.
