Salah satu kompetensi yang sangat penting di abad 21 adalah literasi matematika. Namun, pentingnya literasi matematika belum sejalan dengan prestasi peserta didik Indonesia, yakni literasi matematika peserta didik masih rendah. Salah satu penyebabnya adalah model pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk mengelola aktivitas di dalam kelas belum maksimal. Penulisan artikel ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran tentang pengembangan komponen model pembelajaran Real Math Literacy (RML) yang terdiri dari sintaks, sistem sosial, prinsip reaksi, sistem pendukung, dampak instruksional dan dampak pengiring. Model pembelajaran Real Math Literacy (RML) yang dirancang merupakan hasil analisis, elaborasi, dan sintesis dari teori-teori belajar yang relevan, komponen pokok yang mendasari literasi matematika, model discovery learning, dan assessment for learning.
